Recap: November 2023 Coalition Meeting

The November CALC Coalition meeting was held on Wednesday November 8th at Aztlan Recreation Center in Sunnyside. After a round of introductions, we featured guest speaker Abby from Bikes Together who talked about their partnership with CALC to maintain and grow the Bicycle Repair Kit program at all Denver Public Library Branches (learn more here!) and about the mission of Bikes Together who empowers folks that are typically divested from the cycling community to gain skills and confidence with their bikes. The coalition learned that Bikes Together trains hundreds of people per year on everything from basic bike maintenance to completing their 4-part mechanics series.

Bikes Together is also a CALC Micro-Grantee, using funds to help grow their GEM (Gender Equality Mechanics) Night - a bike maintenance night that is a dedicated and safe space for women, trans folks of all identities, girls, gender-non-conforming folks, two spirit, and femmes of all stripes.

Then the coalition bundled up and donned our glowing gear and ventured out on a Glow Stoll where Jenn and Elizabeth provided context of the history of the neighborhood and everyone answered trivia questions about the area. We sported light up bracelets and loved strolling together.
