An Opportunity for Education: Reflecting on and Re-Introducing the CALC Scholarship Program

Learning is a lifelong art, and our education shouldn’t just stop whenever we finish with our schooling. As we become adults, we may find that we need to be more intentional and more proactive about seeking our educational opportunities, but it is essential to do so nevertheless. Thankfully, Denver CALC is able to help in a small way (that could have a big impact), by offering another year of our CALC Conference Scholarship program.

This specific program invites community members to attend educational trainings and conferences that focus on active living and health equity work. Potential participants submit applications to attend these opportunities and if selected, Denver CALC will pay for them to do so. Those who are selected are asked to provide a brief write-up of the event to share on the CALC blog, so as to extend the valuable insight from these training opportunities with the larger coalition.

Gearing up for the third year of this program, as we close out the previous chapter and look to the new, there are a few things we are reflecting upon and expanding for the upcoming year. Our findings, which can be viewed more in-depth in our newly released case study, show that this program was very helpful for those who participated, and that 100% of the participants would recommend this program to others. Don’t just take our word for it, here’s some words straight from previous scholarship recipients!

  • “Thank you CALC for the scholarship program. These events and trainings helped me become a better leader and is helping me make a difference in my community.”

  • “I found my time at CALC (and this seminar) to be energizing, even after a long day . . . I found the collaboration of ideas from people with varied backgrounds very beneficial. Thank you!”

  • “Thanks for the opportunity to participate. The more we can share and learn as a community the better informed we are to support the growth of a community for all.”

  • As our gatherings continue to shift in form with the changes brought on by COVID-19, we will be offering more scholarships to a broader range of conferences held virtually and will be updating our list of trainings via our CALC newsletter.

If you are interested in attending a conference that provides skills, knowledge, and/or training in the areas of health equity or active living, please apply for the CALC Scholarship Program here. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis and we look forward to receiving your application and connecting you with further educational opportunities!
